Late last month, I participated in the march on Washington. I firmly believe that without equality for everyone, we simply don’t have civil rights for anyone. The march was a positive and energizing experience and I wanted to take the time to share what I heard and saw with all of you. The #BLM movement has been politicized, but their core message is IMO quite strong. And the event was anything...

Older New Englanders would add R sounds on words that didn't have it, Like chiner for china or SaRar for Sarah, that's really faded. I notice few younger people used the old slang or have the accent. I'm a gen X-er & am proud of my Boston accent.

You go heavy on the "no r" thing, which ironically is not an accent feature so much as the absence of a feature which is present in accents of people from elsewhere in America. 2:54 I wonder if what they found so difficult was suppressing their own accent.

Hello Matt, I was curious if you knew the name of the cottage that is also a part of the hospital campus. I believe it was near the medical director's house. It is a single cottage, 2 floors, small porch and amazing view of Lake Chauncy, I have a lot of pictures it that I uploaded into a video so I could clear up some of my memory on various devices. I used to know the name, the pictures on my channel were taken around 2016. Do you remember? I think it was used as the last step toward "home" and out of "rehab." Anyway, Great video, that property has always fascinated me, I was never a rebel and broke in, but I have done a lot of reading and research and the concept of its inception is amazing to me.

Accents shouldnt be allowed to die out any more than endangered species should. They are to speech what species are to biology. Anyway, ive noticed that Bostonians really cling to “wicked” as the word that best says “im from Boston”. So even after the accent disappears overall, i believe “wicked” will remain. I can switch back into the accent having grown up there. Periodically, ill recite a famous line from “good will hunting” to stay in shape. In the harvard bar scene, matt damon says “ in 50 yeahs youre gonna staht doin’ some thinking on your own….” and then he says the word “certainty” Now, Ill bet no Hollywood actor can say that word properly, even if they get the rest of the accent mostly right. In Bostonese its pronouced “sooertainty”. Course it wont matter anymore if what you say is correct about the accent disappearing. The saddest thing may be that we’ll no longer get to laugh at actors when they butcher it (which often sounds like some weird british-ized varient)

It depends if you want to be comfortable, or if you want to be a part of the social discourse. Now more than ever X is filled with heated discourse because people form both sides of the isle are being heard. There's no "good old days" of a social network, just some smaller social networks filled people people more fitting of a few demographics or interests. For a lack of better term, those are echo chambers that gives everyone the warm and fuzzies, but ultimately won't serve the global community. It is through dealing with the harshness of everyone we don't agree with that we get to grow, and the other way around.

Not from MSDNC or the China News Network. Epoch Times, Fox Business, and The Daily Wire, are all trust worthy sources. OIL and energy drive prices. HomObama and Bidumb went to war with the Energy sector and prices stayed well above $90 a barrel. President Trump fixed that, and he will again. When oil gets back to $65 a barrel , life will improve for everyone.

Inflation is not as bad but the prices did not come down nor did wages grow to meet inflation. If you own assets, you are doing OK, but if you are looking to buy a house or most of your income comes your wages, especially non professional wages, you are in a historically bad spot. Wages lag behind inflation and production, housing stock is at historical lows while prices remain high even with rates cranked. It could get a lot better and still be materially bad for working class americans. There is a long way to go and middle class austerity has done a lot of damage in the past 30 years and the candidates are either not addressing the issue or giving it lip service while serving asset heavy donors.

I don't understand why people have to continually screw up the Boston language. Matt, what's wrong with you? If Boston were spelled B-A-R-S-T-O-N, then you'd pronounce it, 'Bahston'. For Pete's sake, people from Boston say it like everyone else, 'Bawston'. I was born there (1949), grew up there, so I know what I'm talking about. Why don't you grow up, Matt?

I first heard about this a year or two ago in a lecture by an engineering professor. He said the tank was constructed hastily and engineers were not consulted to design it. Initially the molasses was used to manufacture ethanol, which was in high demand due to World War 1. (Ethanol is used to manufacture munitions.) When the war ended the demand for ethanol dropped drastically so the company looked for another product to manufacture. As you suggested they decided on alcohol because Prohibition was scheduled to start in one year so they figured there would be a high demand for alcohol until then. They received a large shipment of molasses by ship in January 1919, filling the tank. Three days later it burst from the pressure. The engineering professor said a buildup of gas released by the molasses may have contributed to the rupture (the pressure inside the tank would increase with the buildup of the gas). The company initially tried to blame the tank's rupture on a anarchist bombing as you noted (the engineering professor said there was anarchist activity in Boston at the time) but it was obvious upon examination of the tank it burst simply because it was not properly designed to handle the loads it would be subjected to.
